Thirty years in sales taught me what a website is actually for.
30 years selling and running marketing before I built a single site for anyone else. That order is the whole point.
I came to this from
the other side.
I’ve spent more than 30 years in sales and marketing, from retail floors to B2B, and eventually a 26-year career in a highly specialized industry where I was responsible for both driving sales and leading marketing strategy, work that has also kept me in direct, ongoing contact with library leadership across the country. Not through a training program or a certification. Through trial, error, repetition, and a lot of honest self-reflection.
Most people who build websites arrive from design or from code. They build something that looks right, and often it is, technically. What I kept noticing from the sales side was different: sites that were perfectly nice and still gave nobody a reason to call. I’d spent decades watching what makes a person decide to trust you, and almost none of it was on those pages.
So I learned to build them properly. Hand-coded, fast, accessible, structured so search engines can read them. Then I spent the past year on the newer half of the problem: how you show up when a customer asks an AI assistant for a recommendation instead of typing into a search box. That question matters more every year, and most of the industry is still acting like it won’t.
I’m based in Huntsville, Alabama, and I work with businesses anywhere. When you hire me, I’m the person who builds the site, does the search work, and writes the words. No team behind me, no account manager in between. That’s a limit on how much I can take on, and it’s also why the work holds together.
“I’d rather tell you your site doesn’t need rebuilding than sell you one that does.”
— Barton EbyWhat you can expect when we work together
Four things that shape every project I put my name on.
I Do the Work
The person you talk to is the person writing the code and the copy. Nothing gets passed to a junior designer or sent offshore, and you never have to explain your business twice.
Built, Not Assembled
No page-builder templates, no plugin stacks that quietly rot. Your site is built for what your business actually does, which is also why it still loads fast three years from now.
Honest Over Comfortable
If your site is fine and the real problem is your Google listing, I’ll tell you that, even though the smaller job pays me less. Nobody has ever regretted hearing the honest version.
Found Is the Measure
A launched site isn’t the finish line. The question is whether people find you and get in touch. That’s what I keep score on, and it’s what we look at together afterward.
Want to talk it through?
Tell me what’s going on with your site or your search presence. I’ll tell you what I see, and whether I’m the right person to help.
